What is brain damage?
Brain disease or brain damage is referred to as being a brain disorder. Examples of brain disorders are:
- Stroke
- Bleeding in the brain
- Bleeding between meninges
- Third cranial nerve palsy
- Brain abscess
- Brain abnormality (congenital)
- Encephalitis
- Concussion
- Brain tumour
- Meningioma (tumour)
- Meningitis
- Dementia
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Parkinson’s disease
- Pick’s disease
- Vascular dementia
What causes a brain disorder?
The cause of a brain disorder depends on the type of disorder. Generally speaking, the following factors are not conducive to good brain health:
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Obesity
- Diabetes insipidus
- Alcohol consumption
- Cardiovascular disorders
Symptoms related to a brain disorder
Because there are so many different brain disorders, with many different characteristics, it is difficult to specify symptoms related to brain disorders.
Common symptoms related to brain damage:
- Speech impediment
- Memory loss
- Change in behaviour
